Find below the information from Grimaldi Group regarding the new CO2 emissions taxation system, the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS):
“We wish to inform you that on the 5th of June 2023 the European Directive (EU) 2023/959 came into force including the maritime sector in a new CO2 emissions taxation system, the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS).
As a result of the Directive, All shipping companies will be obliged to compensate their CO2 emissions, by purchasing Emission Unit Allowances on the regulated market (EUA: European Union Allowance equivalent to 1 ton of CO2 emitted).
In view of the above, starting from the 1st of January 2024 Grimaldi lines is obliged to apply the new “ETS Surcharge” clause (as per the attachment valid from 1 January 2024 to 31 March 2024) to be updated every three months based on the price variation of the EUA.”
